The wines of Vesuvius were already famous in Roman times for their body and goodness: "Haec iuga quam Nysae colles plus Bacchus amavit - Bacchus loved these hills more than the native hills of Nisa" There are various myths and legends about the name of the wine: «God recognizing in the Gulf of Naples a strip of sky snatched by Lucifer during his fall towards hell, wept and where the divine tears fell the vine of the Lacrima Christi arose « . Lacryma Christi was produced in ancient times by certain monks whose convent stood on the slopes of Vesuvius. It seems that later the Jesuit Fathers, owners of vast lands in those localities, were almost exclusive producers and holders of this precious wine. Lacryma cristi is born from the combination of vine - territory, including the environment and the microclimate in this. The presence of Vesuvius has had a decisive influence on the mineralogical richness of the entire area, and consequently on the fruits of the earth which transmits its characteristics, its flavors through the nourishment of the plants rooted in it. Although the traditions of Lacryma Christi are rooted, the establishment of the DOC is quite recent and dates back to 1983.

The characteristic bright straw yellow stands out to the eyes together with the persistent fine-grained perlage, while the nose reaches refined floral aromas, underlined by the mineral note typical of Greco. The slightly dry, harmonious and balanced taste makes the combination with aperitif appetizers, fish-based appetizers, fried vegetables and tapas food agile and versatile.
The name Falanghina, according to some, probably derives from the Greek falangos, a term adopted and then translated by the Latins into phalange or support pole to which the vines were tied according to a still widespread system. What is certain is that the origins of the autochthonous vine date back to Greek-Balkan stocks, and that it was introduced in Sannio, mostly in Campania, by the pelagic people of the Aminei. Despite the etymology of the vine and its somewhat mysterious origins, Falanghina is a very ancient variety that was certainly already cultivated in Roman times; it is no coincidence that some scholars have stated that Falanghina descends from the ancient Falernum Gauranum or white Falerno del Gàuro, known as the "wine of the emperors", also praised by Pliny the Elder, Horace, Virgil, Cicero.

It was the Greeks who brought the original Fiano vine, the "Vitis Apicia", to Italy: the first vines were planted in Lapio, a locality that took its name from the grape, the municipality where Fiano is still produced. In turn, the name "Vitis Apicia" or "Apina" derives from the characteristic, precisely of this sweet-scented grape, of attracting swarms of bees to the vineyards. From Apina came "Apiana" and from this "Afiana", therefore Fiano.
